From November 21st to the 24th, 2024, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) held its Autumn General Assembly in Thessaloniki, bringing together representatives from across Europe and further shaping the future of the organisation.
The Assembly addressed several crucial topics, such as the progress updates on ESN's new Long-term Strategy, which aims to guide the organisation’s development over the upcoming six years, the approval of ESN Khazar Candidate Section as a potential second local ESN association in Azerbaijan, and general insights into the organisation's current priorities, ongoing projects, and future plans. We also celebrated the 20th anniversary of ESNcard - the membership card of the Erasmus Student Network.
“We're here, where democracy started, to discuss the future of ESN and the future of the Erasmus+ programme. You are the pillars of democracy in ESN.” - Rita Dias, President of the Erasmus Student Network
Volunteers engaged in thought-provoking discussions on enhancing engagement and improving internal communication within a large, diverse volunteer organisation such as ESN. The conversations emphasised the importance of fostering inclusivity, transparency, and collaboration at all levels.
The Autumn General Assembly in Thessaloniki not only served as a platform for decision-making but also strengthened the bonds between ESN members, sharing the commitment to supporting students and promoting cultural exchange across borders.
The event would not have been possible without the hard work of ESN volunteers behind the organisation, especially the joint forces of three local ESN associations in Thessaloniki, going by the name “ESN Thessaloniki”. Their collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Macedonia, and the International Hellenic University shows the importance of student associations in achieving a positive impact on international student mobility and society in general.
ESN members will reconvene in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from April 24th to the 27th, 2025, to continue shaping and deciding the organisation’s future. What to expect next? Voting on the Long-term Strategy, Three-year Plan, Action Plan, choosing the Statutory Bodies to lead the Network in the year 2025/2026, and more!
